Overall Performance
The December 2020 English proficiency test for non-native speakers in China has just concluded. As usual, the test was separated into several parts, including listening comprehension, reading comprehension, and writing. Judging from the overall performance of the test-takers, it seems that the difficulty level of this year's examination was slightly higher than that of last year. This observation was based on both teachers' interpretations and students' feedback. While some students found the test accessible, most of them struggled with certain questions. Therefore, the average score of this year's test could likely be lower than that of previous years.Listening Comprehension
For the first section, listening comprehension, the test questions were mainly based on daily conversation and news reports. The speakers' accents were mostly standard American English, and the speech rate was normal, which made the section relatively easy for those who are used to practicing this type of exercise. However, some students still found the section challenging due to the use of colloquial expressions and the specificity of certain situations. In general, the listening part was acceptable, but students needed to answer quickly to ensure they didn't run out of time.Reading Comprehension and Writing
For the next two sections, reading comprehension and writing, the questions were more difficult and required a higher language proficiency level. The reading section had four passages, each of which was followed by several questions. The topics covered a wide spectrum, from environmental protection to artificial intelligence. Most students agreed that the reading section was the most challenging part of the test. They found the texts lengthy and the vocabulary used unfamiliar. In contrast, the writing section had two topics: an argumentative essay and an opinion essay. Students had to write both essays in 80 minutes. The good news was that the essays were neither difficult nor unfamiliar; the bad news was that the time constraint made the writing part even more demanding. Therefore, students need to practice writing more to improve their proficiency in English. Conclusion
To sum up, the December 2020 English proficiency test was more challenging than last year's test, particularly the reading section, which was the most difficult for most students. However, with proper training and practice, students can overcome the difficulties and improve their proficiency in English. In conclusion, students need to work hard and take advantage of every opportunity to practice and improve their English skills to be better prepared for next year's test.下一篇:返回列表
